Following Joanna Bérenger’s recent press conference, where she made accusations against the Central Electricity Board (CEB) regarding the allocation of a Rs 5 billion contract to Corex Solar for a photovoltaic farm project, Radjen Chowdharry, the officer in charge of the CEB, along with his lawyer Ravin Chetty, filed a deposition with the CCID on September 18.

The deposition cites false and malicious allegations against the MMM parliamentarian.

On Saturday, the CEB issued a statement refuting the accusations, asserting that they were baseless.

The CEB claimed that all procedures for the project had been followed and that their legal counsel had no concerns about the proposed site change by Corex Solar. However, the statement did not mention the report from their “Renewable Energy Committee,” which l’Express reported on September 19, recommending against awarding the contract.

Bérenger told l’Express: “They are creating an atmosphere of fear to silence people. Instead of exposing this scandal, they chose to file a complaint against me. We will continue with our policy of truth.”

She explained that the CEB should come forward and explain why a specific company received so many favours. “We disagree with this manoeuvre. We don’t want the people to bear the costs. Our international reputation is at stake.”
