MP Fined Rs 2,000 for Molesting Public Officer

Francisco François, the Parliamentary Private Secretary and leader of the Rodrigues People’s Organisation (OPR), who was found guilty of Molesting Public Officer in the Rodrigues court on August 24, has received his sentence.
The verdict was delivered by Magistrate Nader Ali Caunhye. He has been fined Rs 2,000, in addition to Rs 100 for court fees.
François was found guilty of violating Articles 2 and 3(1)(a) & (2) of the Public Officers’ Protection Act by making threats to Constable Philippe in July 2019.
Although the defendant had previously expressed his intention to contest the judgment and reserve the right to appeal, he had not yet initiated the appeal process by the time of the sentence.
