MV Wakashio Shipwreck: New Police Complaint Filed 3 Years Later

Political activist Bruneau Laurette, also member of the political group “One Moris,” has filed a new police complaint three years after the MV Wakashio shipwreck and the associated environmental disaster.

He cited an investigative report by the Panama Maritime Authority, published in July, which highlighted the slow response and lack of professionalism by authorities in preventing an oil spill.

Laurette’s complaint targets top government officials, including the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, alleging that allowing the MV Wakashio to sink was illegal as no investigation had been initiated at the time.
