The Mauritius-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Cooperation Forum convened on August 31, 2023, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Balaclava, bringing together delegations from both nations.

The forum included representation from about 35 Chinese companies and approximately 50 senior officials from China.

This development bodes well for Mauritian exports, with projections indicating a growth from Rs 78.8 billion in 2019 to Rs 110 billion this year, marking a 7.8% increase from 2022.

Under this trade agreement, 302 certificates of origin have been issued, accounting for exports valued at over Rs 750 million, facilitating the duty-free export of 8,227 Mauritian products to China.
