Sweeping Revisions to COVID-19 Restrictions: Major Changes Ahead

The Cabinet has given its approval for revisions to the Quarantine (COVID-19 Restrictions) Regulations 2022, effective from September 4, 2023. These amendments bring about notable changes:

The scope of mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 or the requirement to present a negative COVID-19 Test Certificate in order to access their workplace will now be limited to four specific types of institutions:

·      Educational or training institutions

·      Health institutions

·      Residential care homes/residential care institutions for children who are victims of violence, abuse, and neglect/shelters for women who are victims of domestic violence

·      Child care services establishments

The previous mandatory seven-day self-confinement period for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 will no longer be in effect. Instead, the duration of self-confinement will be determined by a registered medical practitioner.

Meanwhile, the Director of Civil Aviation has extended two NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) until October 31, 2023, for travellers to Mauritius and Rodrigues. The NOTAM for Mauritius recommends, but does not mandate, filling out the All-In-One travel form, wearing masks during the flight and at the airport, and prohibits individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 within seven days from boarding.

The NOTAM for Rodrigues has the same conditions but excludes the need for passengers to fill out the travel form.

Last week, the Quarantine Act in Mauritius was extended for an additional two months, now set to remain in effect until October 31.
