723 Additional Products to be Exempted from Customs Duties

The Mauritius-China Free Trade Agreement, operational since January 1, 2021, has significantly boosted exports to China.

Presently, Mauritian exporters enjoy duty-free access for 7,504 products, with an additional 723 set to follow suit over 5 to 7 years.

This agreement encompasses a total of 8,227 exportable products. In 2022, imports from China to Mauritius were valued at Rs 49 billion, with direct foreign investments from China at Rs 684 million and Mauritian investments in China at Rs 16 million.

The FTA includes preferential tariffs on over 8,500 tariff lines for Mauritius, contributing to exports exceeding Rs 750 million.

In 2022, exports to China totalled Rs 2.2 billion, with 1,734 Chinese tourist arrivals.
