Tropical storm Dingani is 1,300kms away: Mauritius safe for now…

The Mauritius Meteorological Services (MSD) has said the country is safe for now from tropical storm Dingani which is currently over a thousand  kilometres away.

The severe tropical storm “Dingani” is evolving at around 1300 km to the East-North-East of Rodrigues. This system does not represent a direct threat to the Mascarene Islands for the time being,” it said in a bulletin issued at 11.30am on on Sunday 12 February 2023. 

However, the Met Office is said to be monitoring developments, especially after Dingani seems to have intensified over the last few days.

Storm Dingani was formed on 28 January and was moving towards Mauritius and Reunion Island.

On Sunday, it was centres at 16.7 South 75.5 East, with maximum winds 110 km/hr, gusts 130 km/hr. It is moving in a west-south-westerly direction at 16 km/hr.

Meanwhile, Mauritius Met Office predicted a fair weather Sunday evening and Monday morning. The maximum temperature will be between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius over the central plateau and between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius along the coasts.

Sea moderate beyond the reefs with South-Westerly swells reaching 2 metres.
