Mauritius bus operators feel the pinch as tram service goes live

Bus operators have expressed serious concerns about the implementation of the Metro Express on the Curepipe/Port Louis route. They have reportedly noted a significant drop in the number of passengers during rush hour ever since the Metro Express has become operational.

Other bus operators had noted similar drop in the number of passengers on other routes being served by the Metro Express.

The United Bus Service (UBS) is said to be reviewing its strategy and considering a redistribution of its current fleet.

Alan Ganoo, Minister of Land Transport, explained that the government is “giving a huge support to bus companies through subsidies.”
