Mauritian envoy to India resigns

Mauritius High Commissioner to India Maya Hanoomanjee has decided to return home. She has reportedly sent her resignation letter to the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to reports, the resignation is said to be linked to the death, in August, of his son-in-law, Stephen Lee Bratton, the husband of daughter Naila Hanoomanjee (CEO of Landscape Mauritius).

“She decided to come back to support her daughter and the latter’s in-laws in these difficult times”, a relative was cited as explaining.

Maya Hanoomanjee was appointed High Commissioner of Mauritius to India in May 2020. Before her appointment, she was Speaker of the National Assembly from December 22, 2014 to November 21, 2019.

She was Minister of Health from May 11, 2010 to July 25, 2011.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is yet to make an official announcement.
