More bakeries to close as fuel supplies run out

The President of the Association of Bakery Owners, Nasser Moraby, has warned that bakeries using traditional ovens, which run on diesel, will go out of business when their fuel supplies run out.

“Many have closed and more are to be expected. While the supply of bread is an essential service, many bakeries face serious financial problems,” he said.

Seven bakeries have reportedly already pulled down their curtain.

Bakers the price of “homemade bread” has to be increased from Rs 2.60 Rs4.10.

A readjustment in the price of all common breads, with up to Rs6 for the french baguette, is also being insisted on.

Their call to review the price of “homemade bread” has so far been rejected.
