Vanessa Lagesse murder: Maigrot free again, DPP calls for new inquiry

Mystery still shrouds the murder of stylist Vanessa Lagesse, twenty-one years after she was found dead in her bathtub in Grand Baie in March 2001.
The murder, which led to the arrest of businessman Bernard Maigrot, has been one of the most publicized court cases in Mauritian history.
Two decades later, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has suspended the prosecution against Maigrot for the second time.
The latter had initially been sent to the Assizes after a preliminary investigation, but the DPP had struck out the case.
Years later, police charged the businessman once again, this time based on “new scientific evidence”.
However, on Thursday, l’Express newspaper cited Maigrot’s lawyer, Gavin Glover as telling today the court that his client had never been confronted with these elements.
Which led the representative of the DPP to demand the suspension of court proceedings and demand police to start the investigation anew.
