Port Louis and its surrounding areas are the most affected by dengue outbreaks due to factors such as high population density and conducive climate for mosquito proliferation. The current epidemic started in Baie-du-Tombeau, leading to a high rate of dengue cases in the region.

Infected eggs in the soil can hatch during periods of rain, leading to a resurgence of infected mosquitoes. Mosquito surveillance is important in controlling the spread of dengue even outside epidemic periods. Asymptomatic carriers can unknowingly transmit the virus through mosquito bites.

The movement of infected individuals contributes to the concentration of the epidemic in Port Louis and the North. Authorities conduct targeted mosquito control exercises and sensitization campaigns when cases are reported. Larviciding and fumigation are carried out regularly to control mosquito populations. Actions are also taken to clean up vacant lots and install ovitraps to monitor mosquito incidence.

The Breteau index is used to determine the need for intervention when mosquito density exceeds five. The VBCD monitors mosquito incidence and egg collection using ovitraps in various regions. The upcoming winter may slow down dengue transmission, but it is still early to make predictions. Authorities are stepping up efforts to curb the epidemic, although it will take more time.

Dr. Iyaloo emphasizes the importance of ongoing measures to control mosquitoes and prevent dengue outbreaks. It is crucial to maintain mosquito surveillance and control measures to prevent the spread of dengue. The high population density, water accumulation, and vegetation in the region contribute to the high incidence of dengue cases. The accumulation of water and river banks create an environment conducive to mosquito breeding and dengue transmission.

The resurgence of dengue cases in Port Louis and the North has not been fully studied, but targeted interventions are being implemented. Dengue transmission can be slowed down with effective mosquito control measures and public awareness campaigns. The VBCD plays a key role in monitoring mosquito populations and implementing control measures to prevent dengue outbreaks.

The Ministry of Health has launched a sterile insect project to combat mosquitoes by releasing sterile males into the wild. These mosquitoes do not bite and help reduce the mosquito population. The goal is to produce one million sterile males per week to cover more regions. Dengue sufferers must isolate for 10 days and submit a medical certificate to their employers.

Each day of dengue leave will be deducted from sick leave balances. There are currently 520 active dengue cases with a total of 1,486 reported since December. The virus is spreading in Port Louis and surrounding areas with varying case numbers in different regions. Health authorities in Mauritius face challenges post-tropical storm Eleanor to eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Prevention exercises like fumigation and larviciding need to be replenished due to the storm washing the products away. Rodrigues also experiences dengue cases with 305 active cases and 527 reported since December. The program aims to halt dengue transmission and reduce disease spread. Dengue cases are on the rise, prompting increased efforts to control the disease. Despite the challenges, the government and health authorities are taking steps to combat dengue effectively.

Rainy weather poses obstacles to successful mosquito control measures. The sterile insect project shows promise in reducing the mosquito population and combating diseases like dengue. The island of Rodrigues is also facing a significant number of dengue cases, requiring concerted efforts to control the spread of the virus.
