Mauritius Duty Free Employees Demand Bonus and Improved Working Conditions

Employees of Mauritius Duty Free Paradise (MDFP) are calling on management to review their productivity bonus, which is only 0.7 months’ salary, despite generating over Rs 3 billion in revenue.

Employees are frustrated that the bonus has not been paid this month and is below the amount they expected to receive.

They are also unhappy about working overtime, despite being paid a low overtime rate, leading to staff shortages, long queues, and frustrated customers. MDFP recruitment has been frozen, creating an increased staff shortage.

MDFP employees have threatened to boycott the year-end celebration and not work overtime during the peak season if the calculations are not quickly reviewed.
