Avinash Gopee, director of N-G Group, has announced his decision to abandon the tourism development project in Anse La Raie.

This announcement comes in response to what he describes as politically motivated slander. Gopee, said to be close to the MSM ruling party, expressed his disappointment with the actions of the leaders of the Labour Party and their relentless pursuit of this issue.

He stated that while it would have been a proud moment for N-G Group to diversify into the tourism sector and contribute to the country’s economic development, they have decided to put an end to the baseless controversy by renouncing the project.

Gopee’s decision comes after the recent criticism of the Luxury Suites Ltd masterplan, which was highlighted by the Labour Party and the Pas Tous Nous Anse La Raie collective.

Gopee emphasised that constructive discussions had taken place with local residents, who had placed great hope in the project and its potential for job creation, estimated at around 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Residents of the region, NGOs and other associations had scheduled a protest against the project on December 2.
