New Court House Plagued by Excessive Heat and Infrastructure Issues

Employees at the New Court House in Port-Louis, which houses the Port-Louis District Court, the Bail and Remand Court, the Intermediate Court, the Industrial Court, and the Financial Division, are facing “unbearable working conditions” due to excessive heat and infrastructure issues.

The heat has persisted for months, along with broken facilities, dust, and a lack of windows.

The Bar Council has raised concerns about the faulty ventilation system since February, but no action has been taken.

The situation has worsened recently with recurrent air conditioning failures.

Employees describe entering the courtrooms as entering an oven, and people have even fainted due to the excessive heat.

The issue will be raised in parliament by Labour MP Osman Mohamed.
