Five Private Colleges to Close, 212 Employees Redeployed

Some 212 employees of private colleges in Mauritius that will no longer enroll students have agreed to be redeployed to other secondary schools.

An agreement has reportedly been signed by staff from Mauritius Boys and Girls colleges and Medco Cassis, while staff from Beau-Bassin and Merton will sign this week. Some144 teachers and 68 non-teaching staff will be redeployed next year.

Meanwhile, students will know which school they will attend after the third trimester exams. The list of registered non-paying private colleges has been reduced from 74 to 69.

The former Merton college building will now house Le Nid Group’s nursery, pre-primary, and primary school. Registration begins on November 20.
