Study Results Unveils Confusion on Expiry and Best Before Dates
Food waste reduction NGO, FoodWise, has launched a national campaign for World Food Day to tackle confusion around Best Before and Expiry Dates among 44% of Mauritians.
Conducted by Kantar, a recent study from FoodWise revealed that one-third of the population throws away food that remains edible due to an incorrect understanding of these dates.
Expiry Date identifies when a product becomes unsafe to consume, while Best Before Date relates to a product’s optimal characteristics.
FoodWise’s campaign, planned over a year, will initially be 100% online, then extend to media and supermarkets.
The organisation also encourages companies to join the On Date Labels Pact selling or donating products past their Best Before date.
