Top officials from Indian firm Larsen & Toubro have reportedly been dispatched to Mauritius for critical consultations aimed at resuming the construction of the Metro-Express Phase 4 project.

The allocation of the project to Larsen & Toubro has been challenged by Indian company Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), an enterprise of the Ministry of Railways, on the grounds of alleged lack of transparency in the tender process.

RVNL has told the Delhi High Court that Larsen & Toubro was not the lowest bidder and had not respected certain contract terms.

Larsen & Toubro officials are apparently discussing a timeline for the remaining work and consulting with Metro Express Limited in Mauritius, under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office and the High Commission of India.

The Phase 4 extension of the railway track from Réduit to Côte-d’Or is expected to cost Rs 9.9 billion.

This phase of the project was expected to be completed in October 2024, but works have been suspended until further notice.
