Mauritius Parliament Removes Israel-Hamas Conflict Questions from Agenda

Questions pertaining to the Israel-Hamas conflict were reportedly withdrawn from the agenda of the National Assembly this past Tuesday.

According to a report by l’Express, opposition MPs Farhad Aumeer (Labour) and Khushal Lobine (PMSD) were both set to ask about Mauritius’ stance on the matter, while Osman Mahomed was seeking the Foreign Minister’s opinion regarding the bombing of a Gaza hospital.

Though the newspaper said Khushal Lobine was aware of this withdrawal since last Friday, Aumeer only found out on Monday, while Mahomed received a reply from the ministry after submitting his question.

The Assembly’s deputy clerk cited Nando Bodha’s question a week earlier into the situation in the Middle-East as the reason for the removal of Aumeer and Lobine’s questions, assuring Aumeer that there would be a written response.

Lobine insists that his query is completely different from Bodha’s.

On October 18, a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had denounced the attack on the premises of Ahli Arab Hospital in the torn city of Gaza.

Mauritius had also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Gaza.

“We again call upon all parties to implement an immediate ceasefire and support all ongoing initiatives for a peaceful resolution of this conflict,” the statement read.
