The resumption of parliamentary sessions on October 17, 2023, took a contentious turn as a question about a multi-billion-rupee contract awarded to CorexSolar for solar farm installations sparked heated exchanges.

Four opposition MPs—Paul Bérenger, Patrick Assirvaden, Rajesh Bhagwan, and Joanna Bérenger—now face suspensions ranging from three to six sessions unless they issue unconditional apologies.

Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer cited breaches of parliamentary decorum in his decisions.

Paul Bérenger was suspended for using derogatory language, while Rajesh Bhagwan’s suspension resulted from terms like “corrupt” and “thieves.”

Patrick Assirvaden’s suspension arose from a vigorous objection after question time.

Joanna Bérenger faces an investigation into allegations of repeatedly using the word “corrupt.”

Additionally, claims of offensive language from an unidentified majority member prompted further inquiry in reference to Minister Lesjongard.

Furthermore, Karen Foo Kune reported hearing someone from the majority side use the term “colon,” prompting further examination by the Speaker.
