In a surprise move, the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) conducted an unannounced operation at the Central Electricity Board (CEB) headquarters, seizing all documents related to the Corexsolar solar farm project.

This development signifies a significant turn in the investigation into the alleged fictitious land deal in exchange for a Rs 5 billion contract awarded to Corexsolar.

The ICAC’s investigation will include interviews with technicians responsible for managing the Request for Proposal (RFP) issued on March 18, 2022.

This situation could potentially impact the credibility of the CEB’s tendering process, raising concerns about administrative negligence.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy, Joe Lesjongard, has filed a claim for Rs 25 million in damages against Joanna Bérenger, a Member of Parliament from the MMM, for alleged defamation. This legal action was taken on Thursday, September 28, 2023, and the case is scheduled to be heard on October 19, 2023.

In the complaint drafted by Attorney-at-Law Ravi Ramdewar, Minister Lesjongard contends that the statements made by the opposition MP during a press conference on Saturday, September 16, 2023, were highly defamatory and made in bad faith.

He asserts that these statements, which were also widely covered in the press, have caused significant harm to his reputation and were intended to tarnish his standing, constituting a wrongful act.

During the press conference, Joanna Bérenger had made allegations of misconduct concerning the awarding of a contract by the Central Electricity Board (CEB) for a solar farm project.
