33-Year-Old Mauritian Tourist Smashes Bottle Over Man's Head in Dublin

In an alleged attack on Talbot Street, Central Dublin, a Mauritian man reportedly assaulted another individual by smashing a bottle over his head and subsequently dragging him across the street.

Balkioosn Gujudhar (33) is further accused of brandishing the broken bottle toward a woman who attempted to intervene.

Gujudhar, claiming to be a tourist from Mauritius, is currently under scrutiny by the police for potentially bypassing immigration procedures.

Garda Diarmuid Foley stated that on September 10, at approximately 12:20 am, they received a report of an altercation on Talbot Street.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man with severe facial bleeding, recounting that he had been struck with a glass bottle.

CCTV footage from the Ripley Court Hotel allegedly captured the accused approaching the man and striking him on the head with the bottle.

The impact caused the man to fall, after which Gujudhar purportedly dragged him across the street.

It was further claimed that when a woman attempted to halt the assault, Gujudhar brandished the broken bottle towards her. Parts of the broken bottle were found at the scene.

According to Gda Foley, Gujudhar poses a flight risk. While he claimed to be a tourist in Ireland for four weeks, the Garda National Immigration Bureau stated that he arrived without a visa and had no legal status in the country.

Gujudhar allegedly bypassed immigration procedures after being due to leave the UK.

Defense solicitor David Basset contested the description of the CCTV footage, asserting that Gujudhar and a friend were victims of an earlier assault and robbery.

He suggested that Gujudhar could stay with a friend and provide the address for bail.

Gujudhar surrendered his passport, which requires verification.

Judge Bryan Smyth adjourned the case, stating he would not grant bail but would reconsider it in the future.
