CAUTION: Mauritius and Rodrigues Under Heavy Swell Alert Until September 20

A significant swell warning continues to be in effect for Mauritius and Rodrigues until Wednesday, September 20, at 22:00.

A series of powerful swells, measuring approximately 4 metres, originating from the South-West, are currently impacting the open sea. Consequently, the open sea conditions are notably turbulent, with pronounced swells.

It is anticipated that these swells may lead to breaking waves along low-lying coastal areas, particularly during high tide.

Given these hazardous conditions, fishermen, pleasure-craft operators, and the general public are strongly advised to refrain from venturing out to sea and are strongly discouraged from approaching the beaches, especially those in the Western, Southern, and Eastern regions. Watersports activities such as Kite Surfing and Water Skiing, among others, are strictly advised against.

In light of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebration scheduled for this Wednesday, both the public and devotees are urged to exercise extreme caution and adhere rigorously to the guidelines issued by the competent authorities.

Of particular note, high tide is expected today at 14:22 and tomorrow morning at 03:08.

Please be advised that this advisory will be updated tomorrow, Wednesday, September 20, at 10:00.
