Fatal Accidents Surge by 66.7%, Victims Up by 24%

Statistics for road transport and accidents from January to June 2023 highlight a 2.1% increase in the vehicle fleet, totalling 661,553 registered vehicles. However, road safety has worsened, with fatal accidents rising by 66.7% and incidents involving victims (injuries and fatalities) surging by 24% compared to the same period in 2022.

Of the registered vehicles, cars, double-cab vans, and dual-purpose vehicles constitute 54.5%, while motorcycles and autos make up 36.2%.

Out of 17,038 recorded accidents, 92.6% resulted in no injuries, but 70 were fatal and 184 caused severe injuries.

The number of accidents involving victims increased by 24% to 1,264, compared to 1,019 in 2022. Vulnerable road users, like motorbike riders and pedestrians, were most affected.

Despite a slight dip in vehicles involved in accidents (0.8%), motorcycles were the most common vehicle type (46.7%) in accidents with victims.
