Coming Up: Major Battle between CP Against DPP

The constitutional complaint filed by Commissioner of Police Anil Kumar Dip against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will be heard in the Supreme Court as from September 18.
Commissioner Dip swore an affidavit before the court, detailing serious allegations against Director of Public Prosecutions Me Rashid Ahmine.
Commissioner Dip believes that the DPP’s actions compromise investigations in certain cases.
In his complaint, the Commissioner contends that the DPP is violating Article 71 of the Constitution, thereby challenging his powers as Commissioner of Police.
This includes powers related to crime detection, investigation, and the apprehension of suspects, which he claims are being encroached upon.
According to reports, two British King’s Counsels will face off in the dispute.
Me Paul Ozine will represent the CP, while the DPP has enlisted the services of Sir Geoffrey Cox. Both lawyers have already been granted permission by the Chief Justice to argue their case in the Supreme Court.
