Speaker Rejects Motion on CP’s Private Lawyers

Labour MP Patrick Assirvaden’s bid for a judicial review was discussed in the Supreme Court on September 4, 2023. Assirvaden contested the rejection of his parliamentary question by Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer. The question in question related to private lawyers retained by Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip. Represented by Me Sanjay Bhuckory and attorney Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, Assirvaden faced opposition from Me Verna Nirsimloo, Chief State Attorney, who presented legal objections. The court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for September 18, 2023, under the jurisdiction of Chief Justice Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul.
