Jugnauth to Join BRICS Summit Amidst Expansion Debates

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth will join 66 other leaders from African and Southern nations at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24. Attendees include South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Around 20 other figures, including the UN Secretary-General, have also been invited. Discussions at the summit are expected to revolve around the expansion of BRICS to include new members, yet divisions among current members on admission criteria might reportedly impede significant announcements. China, Russia, and India are proponents of expansion, while Brazil remains more cautious.
