Air Mauritius to acquire 3 new Airbus A350-900 aircrafts

In a significant development at the Paris Air Show, Air Mauritius has confirmed an order for three Airbus A350-900 aircrafts, to further expand its long-haul fleet.

With this order, for an undisclosed amount, the airline’s total A350 fleet will reach seven, joining its existing four A350-900s and four A330s.

The decision to acquire more A350s is reportedly aimed at bolstering Air Mauritius’ international network, enabling the airline to connect with destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.

The CEO of Air Mauritius, Kresimir Kucko, was cited as expressing pride in “renewing the airline’s longstanding partnership with Airbus”, spanning over three decades.

He said that the new aircraft will strengthen their European network and drive growth in other markets.

Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International at Airbus, applauded Air Mauritius for selecting the A350 as a centrepiece of its long-haul fleet modernisation program. He highlighted the A350’s range capability, improved economics, passenger capacity, and comfort, underscoring its suitability for connecting Mauritius to the world.

The current configuration of these aircraft includes 326 seats in a two-class layout, featuring 28 business class seats and 298 seats in economy class.

While specific delivery dates were not disclosed in the announcement, the additional A350-900s are expected to enhance Air Mauritius’ operations on its European and South Asian routes.

Last year, Air Mauritius sold two of its Airbus A330s for as “part of the Air Mauritius restructuring plan” – an exercise that had sparked controversy as the planes went “for cheap”.
