Rs103m NHDC deal terminated amidst inconsistencies and financial discrepancies

The Independent Review Panel (IRP) has terminated a contract worth Rs 103,056,100 awarded by the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDC) to Unionallied Construction Ltd for essential works in 83 social housing units and a community centre.

The decision came after inconsistencies were discovered in the contract award process. Onix Co. Ltd, a competing bidder, raised concerns about Unionallied Construction Ltd’s failure to submit accounts as required and changes made to qualification criteria.

They also questioned the accuracy of Unionallied Construction Ltd’s reported turnover. The NHDC defended its decision, but Onix Co. Ltd appealed to the IRP, which ruled in their favour.

The IRP cited apparent discrepancies in Unionallied Construction Ltd’s financial statements and recommended a new bidding process.

It also criticised the Bid Evaluation Committee for its evaluation and stressed the importance of diligence in handling public funds.
