Mauritius waves Hello to over 500,000 tourists in 5 months

Mauritius has welcomed a total of 514,258 tourists in the first five months of 2023, according to recent data released by Statistics Mauritius.

The month of January saw 107,684 visitors, followed by 91,850 in February. March saw an increase with 105,663 tourists, while April recorded 109,031 visitors.

In May, the number of tourists stood at 100,030. Out of the total visitors, 507,575 arrived in Mauritius by air, while 6,683 chose to travel by sea.

The data also revealed that there were 251,185 male tourists and 263,073 female tourists during this period.

In terms of international arrivals, Europe contributed the highest number of tourists with 344,608 visitors, followed by 111,436 tourists from Africa.

Among the European markets, France remained the leading source with 134,202 visitors in the first five months.

The statistics further indicated that in the previous month alone, 22,664 tourists from France chose Mauritius as their destination.
