After revealing that around 70,000 bags of 25 kg rice stored in the State Trading Corporation (STC) warehouse were infested with weevils, known as “gons”, Defi Media has now revealed that presence of the weevils has also been detected in the same spaces where flour is stored.

STC employees, speaking on the condition of anonymity, reportedly told the newspaper that they fear that the flour stock may also be contaminated and suggest that it should be sold off to avoid any potential risks.

The STC has reportedly responded by stating that they will activate their health protocol if any issues arise with the flour bags.

However, questions are raising about the effectiveness of the prevention measures and control procedures put in place, as this is not the first time that “gons” have been found in rice bags stored in the same warehouse.

The condition of the infected rice cargo and its edibility remains unclear.

However, according to reports, Labour Party MP Ehsan Juman intends to “take the STC to task” and put a question on the matter at the next Parliamentary session.
