Over 1 tonne of rice infested with bugs in the warehouse of Mauritius' procurement firm

Over 70,000 bags of rice (of 25Kg each) – representing 1.75 tonnes of rice – stocked at the warehouse of the State Trading Corporation (STC) have reportedly infested with “gon” (weevil) – a bug that lives and feeds inside the food item.

STC boss Rajiv Servansingh attributed the infestation on… bad weather.

He added that the Entomology Department of the Ministry of Agro-Industry had been called to fumigate the warehouse.

Servansingh also announced that a new modern warehouse will soon be built at Jin Fei, Terre Rouge.
