Ramgoolam’s lunch with Modi causes stir among political analysts

The former Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party, Minister, Dr Navin Ramgoolam, who was being treated for COVID-19 in India, is said to have almost completely recovered and will soon travel back to Mauritius.
According to Defi Media, he will meet – and could possibly have lunch – with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi before he takes the plane.
Political observers say a meeting between Ramgoolam and Modi was predictable: India is said to have strong influence in Mauritian politics.
This is the first trip abroad for Ramgoolam after six years – his passport was seized after over two hundred million of rupees were discovered in his coffers after his defeat at the 2014 general elections.
His first meeting with a world leader being with Modi is said to be highly “symbolical and interesting.”
Modi had also sent him a bouquet while he was still being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
