A significant development has emerged in the suspected embezzlement case within the Mauritius Athletics Association. A total of Rs 150,025 was found by the Criminal Investigation Division in a mysterious wooden box at the association’s headquarters.

Using a grinder, police officers opened the box, revealing Rs 150,025 in Rs 2000 notes and a Rs 25 bill. This sum is believed to be part of the Rs 150,000 earmarked for the purchase of equipment for Regional Training Centers, which were never received by the intended recipients.

This amount comes from the Rs 306,354 that had been withdrawn from a former federation account on several occasions.

One of the account signatories, Secretary-General Vivian Gungaram, reported the bank withdrawals to the Moka Police. The discovered money was handed over to AMA President Paramasiven Sammynaden by the police on Monday.

The former athlete and other executives present expressed surprise at the existence of the wooden box, as they were unaware of it until its recent discovery.
