The Supreme Court granted bail to Preeya Dassaye on Thursday, March 7, 2024. The bail amount was set at Rs 1 million.

The 49-year-old pharmacist had been in preventive detention since her arrest on December 12, 2023, for possession of drugs with intent to deliver.

The resident of Moka and her son were apprehended during a raid at his pharmacy in Pointe-aux-Sables.

Among the pharmaceutical products, the police found a flask containing approximately 200 ml of a liquid suspected to be synthetic cannabinoids.

The value of the drugs was approximately Rs 3 million.

Although Preeya Dassaye had applied for bail, her request was rejected by the Bambous Court.

She then appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge the court’s decision. During the hearing on Thursday, March 7, 2024, Judges Véronique Kwok Yin Siong Yen and Raj Seebaluck granted her request in the absence of objections from the police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

As part of the conditions for her bail, the defendant must sign a promissory note in the amount of Rs 5 million.

She must also report to the police station in her locality once a day between 6 am and 6 pm and be reachable at all times on her mobile phone.

The Supreme Court also imposed a curfew on her, requiring her to stay at home between 8 pm and 5 am the next day.

Preeya Dassaye is represented by Me Gavin Glover, Senior Counsel, Me Ashik Toorabally, and Me Pazany Thandarayan, attorney.
