India’s state-owned Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) has been mandated to modernise Mauritius’ telecommunications network, among others in Africa, aiming to replace Chinese equipment from companies like Huawei and ZTE.

The initiative seeks to offer Indian technological solutions to telecommunications networks, both mobile and fixed, and operate the main networks at an affordable cost.

Mauritius’ national telecom operator has agreed to undertake a Proof of Concept to begin using Indian technology’s full network capabilities.

However, cybersecurity and network consultant Didier Sam-Fat has raised concerns about dependence on a single provider and urged the use of multiple vendors from diverse geographical regions.
