Indian Minister Denies Imposing Demands on Mauritius Over Agalega

Indian Minister Shri V. Muraleedharan has denied India imposing any demands on Mauritius, following speculation around India establishing a military base on Agalega.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new solar farm in Henrietta, Mauritius alongside Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, Muraleedharan emphasised that India was partnering with Mauritius on development projects, but respecting its sovereignty and leaving it to decide how to proceed.

The solar farm will help Mauritius reach its goal of 60% renewable energy in the mix by 2030, and will benefit 10,000 households whilst reducing 30,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The project was made possible by the strong relationship between Jugnauth and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Muraleedharan, who also thanked India for its investment of MUR 350m ($9m) in the project.
