A shortage of teachers has left the Ministry of Education in Mauritius once again in search of retired educators.
To prepare for the first quarter of 2024, the Ministry is seeking “Supply Teachers” for the primary school level.
Retirees who have not yet reached their 70th birthday by the application deadline are eligible for consideration.
The former educators would be hired for General Purpose and Morisien Creole language instruction.
The Ministry is specifically seeking retired officials who previously served as Headmasters, Deputy Headmasters, primary school teachers or educators.
Applications from public servants who retired from service or who have medical reasons for retirement will not be considered.
Applications are due by 3:30 pm on November 9, 2023 and must include the candidate’s written proof of experience and knowledge, and an equivalence certificate.
The Ministry may only interview the most qualified candidates and is offering a temporary position with a salary of Rs 18,650 per month for the number of days worked.
Selected candidates will receive a bus fare reimbursement based on their attendance.
The successful candidates must complete a two-week intensive course at the Mauritius Institute of Education for General Purpose, and a month and a half course for Morisien Creole.
Retirees who qualify should submit their application on the prescribed form, which is available on the Ministry’s website, and attach copies of their birth certificate, marital certificate (if applicable), national identity card, academic qualifications, teaching experience certificates, as well as proof of computer proficiency.
If selected, the candidate will be required to follow the training and will then be assigned to the government primary schools.
However, the Ministry has the right to terminate the position at any time, based on the school’s needs.
