The AG Jeetoo Hospital, located in Port Louis, has launched an internal investigation in response to a viral video on social media showing expired products being stored in their food storage area.

The footage, posted by Labour Party MP Eshan Juman on Monday, October 30, revealed that not only were some products past their expiration dates, but they were also stored in deteriorating conditions.

Dr. Ravindranath Jugduth, Director of the hospital, held a press conference in response to allegations made in the video.

He emphasized that the hospital has not received complaints related to food quality from patients in the past.

However, he did note that the hospital serves between 1,080 to 1,100 meals daily and that an internal investigation will be conducted to address the condition of the food storage area.

Additionally, measures will be taken to improve storage conditions and to remove expired products.

Despite the hospital’s reassurance, concerns remain for patients and their families.

Juman, who brought the issue to light, has criticised the hospital’s lack of action and has threatened to involve the police.

In light of this, the Ministry of Health has made assurances to hold those involved accountable to ensure food safety regulations are properly enforced in all hospitals.
