Chagos: Pressure on UK PM To Suspend Talks with Mauritius 

The British hawks (a Think Tank) and their counterparts in Washington DC are increasing their efforts to disrupt negotiations between London and Port Louis concerning the sovereignty of the Chagos Islands.

Admiral Lord West is leading the latest offensive, arguing that returning the islands to “China-aligned” Mauritius would be a “colossal mistake” due to the strategic importance of the largest island, Diego Garcia, as a US military base.

The Judicial Power Project is backing Lord West’s claims and calling for the government to defend UK sovereignty over the islands.

The Foreign Office has downplayed tensions with the US and has assured that any agreement with Mauritius will maintain the joint UK-US military base.

Despite the pressure, Port Louis remains committed to ongoing consultations.
