Cops’ Relatives Hit at Police Commissioner over La Citadelle incident

Police have released two constables, Idoo and Basgeet, from the La-Citadelle incident after verifying their alibis.

The Major Crime Investigation Team had no choice but to release them when it was found that they were not in Port-Louis that night.

The family of one of the constables expressed frustration over the police’s manner of investigation and Commissioner Dip’s statement.

“They (police) have already tarnished his reputation, and now they say it was a mistake.

The investigators need to verify their information and not rely solely on unverified statements that are making things worse,” they insist.

In the meantime, more suspects were arrested for questioning, and four of them were charged with “Damaging property by band” and “Taking part in an unlawful assembly” in court at Port-Louis and remain in custody.

Among the suspects in custody is also a Train Captain from Metro Express Ltd. who claims he was only present at La Citadelle to see what was happening as he lives nearby.

In total, around 20 people have been arrested in connection to the La Citadelle incident.
