Warning: Flu Medications Linked to Heart Attacks and Strokes!

The French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines has warned against the use of oral vasoconstrictors to treat cold symptoms, as they may cause serious side effects. The warning specifically concerns pseudoephedrine-based medications, which can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
The warning applies to products such as Actifed Rhume, Dolirhume Paracétamol, Nurofen Rhume, and Rhinadvil Rhume Ibuprofène/ Pseudoéphédrine, among others.
The risk is said to be low, but can occur regardless of the dose or duration of treatment.
In Mauritius, the Committee on Pharmacovigilance is expected to meet soon to study the information and solicit the opinion of other international organisations.
The affected medications, such as Actifed Rhume and Nurofen Rhume, are still available in local pharmacies, but a decision on their sale will be made pending the committee’s review.
