Healthcare Decentralisation Expands to Plaines-Wilhems
The Ministry of Health is extending its decentralisation of health services to include certain areas in Plaines-Wilhems, following its successful implementation in the South, a portion of Port-Louis, and the North.
This initiative aims to provide specialist medical services in local health centres, reducing the burden on regional hospitals.
Five establishments have been identified for this programme.
The goal is to rebalance patient distribution, shifting from 60% in favour of regional hospitals to 60% in favour of local facilities within two years.
This move aligns with World Health Organization recommendations for a more efficient and cost-effective healthcare system.
Region 5, which encompasses various healthcare facilities, serves a population of 334,872.
