The Mauritian government is increasingly appointing retired senior officials to key positions, drawing criticism for this practice.

Figures like Nayen Koomar Ballah, an ex-Civil Service head who became a Prime Minister’s advisor, and Vidianand Lutchmeeparsad, who was an SCE and is now President of the Public Service Commission, have received noteworthy appointments post-retirement.

Critics argue that such appointments, though not new, are being perceived as rewards and have the potential to hinder young talent.

While acknowledging the competence of retired officials, union leader Radhakrishna Sadien called for a clear government policy on the employment of retirees.
