Over 800 Teachers Exit Mauritius Education Sector in 2 Years

Over the past two years, Mauritius has seen a concerning trend of over 800 teachers leaving the education sector.

The exodus of educators is particularly acute in both primary and secondary levels.

In addition, the number of high school students has dipped below 100,000 this year, a significant drop from 116,000 in 2018.

Moreover, declining enrolments in pre-primary education have resulted in the closure of ten schools.

These figures, unveiled in the latest report by Statistics Mauritius, highlight an urgent need for strategies to address the teacher shortage and stabilise student enrolment.
