Union Criticises Last-Minute Exam Changes, Slams Education Ministry

The United Deputy Rectors and Rectors Union (UDRRU) has criticized last-minute changes to the exam schedule for the National Certificate of Education (NCE). Vikash Ramdonee, UDRRU’s secretary, expressed concern over the direct approach by the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES) to teachers, bypassing school rectors.

Ramdonee highlighted that this move exacerbates the existing shortage of teachers in schools. He emphasised that such decisions are detrimental to both public interest and the welfare of students. “Why not request assistance from private institutions? Are state colleges just neighborhood shops?

The Ministry of Education is equally at fault in this matter because they had assured us that they would take action to prevent a recurrence of this situation. We call for a dialogue and a consensus on this matter. If they lack vision and leadership, let’s sit down and discuss.”
