Eagle Insurance to Pay Record Rs1Bn Claim after Devastating Fire

LUX* Belle Mare and Eagle Insurance have agreed to a staggering insurance claim of over Rs1 billion, arising from the catastrophic fire that swept through the resort in July 2022.

This claim, the largest in Mauritius’ history, underwent months of rigorous evaluation.

The fire decimated 130 rooms and 12 villas, crippling over 75% of the resort’s capacity.

Lux Island Resorts’ CEO, Désiré Elliah, lauded the support of both Eagle Insurance and City Brokers Ltd in navigating this complex reimbursement process.

The restoration efforts are on track, with LUX* Belle Mare slated to reopen on October 1, 2023.
