Have Dual Nationality? Here’s A Court Battle You Should Follow

Mauritian citizens with dual nationality are reportedly facing refusals from the Civil Status Division when applying for their Biometric ID Cards, despite years of residency in Mauritius.

The affected individuals have been directed to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to confirm their Mauritian citizenship, leading to legal challenges initiated by lawyers Me Joy Beeharry and Me Hiren Jankee.

The cases involve plaintiffs who hold Mauritian passports and National Identity Cards, asserting their right to citizenship based on residence and constitutional provisions.

The Supreme Court is set to address these issues in upcoming hearings on September 27.
