Mauritius has witnessed a continuous decline in birth rates from 12,108 in 2021 to 11,223 in 2022.

Alongside this, the infant mortality rate has increased from 13.6 in 2021 to 14.7 in 2022.

Conversely, maternal deaths have decreased from 7 in 2021 to 4 in 2022.

The decrease in births between 2021 and 2022 was 7.3%, while infant deaths remained at 165 for both years. Births among those under 20 years old have reduced to 7.4 in 2022, whereas among women over 35, it has risen to 16.2.

The proportion of prenatal consultations within three months gestational age is 27.6% in 2022.

Moreover, the proportion of newborns with low birth weight has risen to 20.4% in 2022 from 17.1% in 2011.
