Lawyer and partner Seek Rs 500 Million Each in Damages

Lawyer Akil Bissessur and his partner Doomila Moheeputh are gearing up for a legal offensive. They are individually contemplating claims for damages amounting to Rs 500 million each from the state (total of Rs1 billion).

The claim follows the perceived harm they suffered as a consequence of their arrest during an operation conducted by the Special Striking Team on August 19, 2022, in Palma.

This was confirmed by Akil Bissessur himself, subsequent to the provisional drug possession charges against Doomila Moheeputh being dropped at the Bambous court on Monday.

Bissessur lamented that their arrest has significantly tarnished his personal and professional reputation.

He pointed out that he and his partner have initiated another lawsuit against the state, each seeking Rs 150 million in damages related to the case involving the leakage of intimate videos. “What is disheartening is that it’s the public who will ultimately bear the consequences,” he said.
